Templates are used to apply a certain set of modifications to reflect a unique version of a given vehicle or piece of equipment. For example, if a player had an old lightsaber that was passed down through their family for generations, one would apply the antiquated weapon template. Likewise if a troupe acquired a bleeding edge starship the GM may apply either the advanced starship template or prototype starship template depending on how best either would fit into the storyline.
